Time.
For me it’s time. Some people out there, seem to think we’re all running on unlimited time and that we’re all immortal. It’s not the case, but it’s awfully apparent just how little we care about the concept of time. We only make it matter when it comes to things we want to buy, fretting about bills .etc
But anything else, we chuck it over our shoulder and pretend it doesn’t exist.
Other people.
If we respected other people, we would:
- Take better care of the planet everyone has to live on
- Be more polite in traffic, on the internet, to service workers, etc.
- Push harder for a more equitable justice system
- Hold accountable those who openly display disrespect or contempt for their community or society in general.
- Push back harder against racism, sexism, and similar -isms.
That’s just off the top of my head.
Doing nothing.
It’s seen as if when you’re not generating profits, you are wasting your and everyone else’s time.
yeah, i get a lot of negative feedback because I engage in in a lot of activities that don’t produce money or spend money.
People with no knowledge of a field questioning people who are subject matter experts.
The disrespect for professionals has gotten so bad in the workplace specifically since executives got access to LLMs. They must have AI psychosis because the way they will ask chatgpt to do your job and then hand you that hot garbage and expect you to finish the rest of the fucking owl in half the time for 10% of the pay (because AI did the hard part already right?) makes me want to throw them out the window.
worse is people who took 101 course in an area and think they know better than people who have been studying it for decades and will argue with the expert how wrong they are because their research doesn’t fit into the vastly oversimplified knowledge they got in the 101 coursework.
that and people who read one NYTB book on the topic, which again, is vastly oversimplified and written at an 8th grade level. I meet many folks who argue with me from that knowledge base about things I have spend decades working on.
problem in both cases is people think their theoretical ideal is the ‘truth’ and that the limitations of the real world are some sort of conspiracy against the simplified model they are working with… which is like 99% of the content on this site…
Those people are now chatting with an AI and everyone of their ignorant and stupid coments is met with, “What a great insight!”
Which is good because they can be fellated in the privacy of their own homes, but it’s bad because when they get out in public, they are much worse.
This can be forgiven as long as you did your own research by listening to your favorite influencer on TikTok :>
Family and home.
There was a time when I had to live on the streets, away from my family, against my will. And during that time, I realized just how many blessings I’d had without even appreciating them.
Health as well. Not only do people make fun of destroying their own health, but the disabled and the old are the most disregarded groups of people. I stg there’s a sizable minority that think both should be culled from the population.
I think it goes both ways. Many people get that time is the ultimate thing. Also some people feel only productive time is important which to me could not be further from the truth. Lastly the most direspected is other peoples time.
I think rest in respect of mental wellbeing. It depends on the culture a little, but I feel it is all about punctuality, productivity, how you can contribute to your countries gdp etc. Work more, not smarter. It’s tiring. I shall take a nap now. Merzweckeier.
Probably that part when you get chained to a rock and the gods keep you alive so that birds can come along and eat your liver every day.
I don’t understand why you think people don’t value time. Most people would love to have more time to do what they like to do.
You could want more of a resource while also squandering what you already have. I could have slept an extra 30 min this morning instead of watching yt videos. I would have preferred more time I would have used to sleep in later, but the time I did have i wasted.
Oh, yes, I squander and waste a lot of my time, but that’s because there isn’t anything I actually really want to do. There are things I definitely DON’T want to do, and I’m avoiding doing them.
Maybe the complaint isn’t so much about time but life itself?
I think some other contenders would be health, diet, property, environment, and education along with time.
