does anyone have an idea why were the first geostationary satellites focused on some strange point in the middle of africa?
Maybe those geostationary satellites have something to do with US spying on the UdSSR?
in the middle of africa? i am talking about this cluster, which seems to be hanging out above kenya/uganda/tanzania border.

I thought that maybe in that position they could be reached from the US east coast or from the geostationary ones positioned over the US. Just looked it up and maybe they could be part of these SIGINT satellites during the cold war that intercepted communications.
