I’ve never heard that story before so I’m a little suspicious. This one is much better known though…https://www.comicsands.com/matthew-morrison-cheating-girlfriend
Snopes has an article that dismisses the OP as myth, and while they’re almost certainly right that it’s fantastical, the article is completely useless, even by Snopes standards. It doesn’t cite any sources for its evidential excerpt and the fact-check is diluted by a bizarre editorial.
We’re kind of asking snopes to prove a negative, to be fair.
I’d bet money that at least one similar type of interaction happened though, whether it was someone working in the towers, someone supposed to be generally in the area, or someone pretending they had a flight for a business trip. With literally millions of plans suddenly changed, at least one of the people affected was probably lying about their plans to cover up cheating.
At that time in history, most people’s stories didn’t make it much past their social circle unless they were really remarkable (and with the context, this wouldn’t be a remarkable story) and after 25 years, it would be very difficult to prove it happened.
My point was there were lots of personal stories that came out in the aftermath. This is not one I’d ever heard until now, and in the black humor of afterwards, I would have expected to. It would have been almost light hearted given the wreckage. That’s why I’m suspicious.
Yeah, I don’t doubt that the person who originated this story made it up. I just also don’t doubt that essentially the same thing happened to multiple couples.
I wouldn’t share this story if it were mine because it’s too personal, and I’d probably feel some measure of shame about it.
Imagine if he had said he was out at lunch or somewhere else besides the office.
