Has anyone tried the newer “OG” release of the markdown version?
I’m wanting to keep the markdown files instead of migrating to the DB version and I’m (still) using logseq 0.10.15, but I’ll be upgrading soon, so wanted to check if others have any feedback since this release in April.
I tried the new version first, had a load of things I didn’t like, most of which were caused by not being able to edit the files directly, then I found the og version.
This just seems like a clear time to change and switch to another knowledge graph.
Of course a DB is more optimal, but these applications aren’t meant to run production databases of 100,000 entries in milliseconds, they’re meant to be accessible and the appeal of using .md was in making it future proof, simple, and accessible.
If I wanted to use a redis DB or Postgres I could just do that.
What other than org-mode and obsidian are the options?
For markdown?
There’s a few… Joplin and silverbullet come to mind… There’s othet apps capable of working with markdown files of course, but it’s all the linking that I found the best.
I tried the 1.0.0, and it’s not much different than the latest release. The v1 release was there just to differentiate it from the v2 DB release as I understand. The OG and DB versions still have the same id on Android, so you can’t install them together. It was supposedly fixed with a pull request, but the team never cut a release for that. I feel they abandoned that for good to focus on the new product.
I was disappointed, because my notes span years and Logseq became slow on the PC and unusable on Android, so my notetaking just halted for a while. I discovered however there is an app compatible with existing notes, called Tine, that basically is building a fast client for Logseq Markdown notes. I’m trying it and my first impression is positive. Maybe you should try too.
Thanks, yeah, I have installed the later version and, yeah, it’s just a point upgrade really, nothing better
I also installed Tine, pointed it at my folders and then it just tells me:
unsafe graph layout: Invalid argument (os error 22)Looking at github issues it seems this has been fixed in an upcoming release, so I’m holding out for that.Meanwhile, I’m also giving FastLog a go… it’s more limited than the Logseq client, but it works…
I have 4 graphs and it’s my Work one that’s unusable on Android now. I did think about breaking it down into annual graphs, but then I’d lose all the interdependencies.
It’s just a shame that the dev team have gone so quiet
What’s the deal with this release? I’m still on 0.10.14. Should I upgrade to 0.10.15 or this?
Instead of keeping markdown files as source of truth, they moved to having a DB. And you can only export the notes into MD (AFAIK). OG is the (most probably) abandoned branch without the DB

I’m still in the markdown version. After “converting” the markdown directory I had no pages, nor could I find a menu entry to view, let alone create them. Only option seemed to be journal entries, which I don’t use.
Ok, interesting.
Did you go back to an eaelier version, or this newish OG version?
I’m back on 0.10.15
@Chais @Cyber just migrated to silverbullet.md.
I took a look at this, but (from memory), I couldn’t create templates??
I think I needed to learn Lua for something and it was put into the difficult pile… I recall it also needed hosting, so I couldn’t have it as a separate window than the browser (I know tabs can be moved now…)
Is the (new?) Silverbullet+ any good?
@Cyber i don’t know, I’m using with podman. It has a learning curve, but with some patience and community I’ve found useful things.
@Cyber I do. On multiple devices. Works just as the pre db version
Ok, good to know, thanks
Anything notable about it, or is it really just 0.10.“16”?
Logseq OG, fortunately being real free software (as in freedom), deserves forking if the original devs do not want to continue it. But it already works as intended, yes.
For F-Droid, take also a look at this Fastlog
https://f-droid.org/packages/com.siddharthagolu.fastlog :fdroid:Combining them with Syncthing is all good. :syncthing:
Ooh, thanks.
Yeah, the logseq Android app is really struggling.
For one graph (work) I’ve given up and just use Markor, but I didn’t know about Fastlog, I’ll take a look - thanks!
Edit: and yes, syncthing for the win
