I only ever got paranoid that I might be caught smoking before my parents knew I smoked and it was illegal here.
Did you at least give your parents a goodnight handshake while you were high as a kite? ^^
Smoked a fatty with my dad while watching Cheech & Chong. Does that count?
Sounds like good times.
A few things.
(1) CBD is an effective antipsychotic, but the consumer market for weed has been selectively breeding it out in favor of pure and dense THC strains.
(2) The way THC works on anxiety is a biphasic curve where at lower doses it reduces and at higher it increases. And because the efforts have been at increasing potency of flower, you can have a significant dosing range between a bowl of one strain and another.
If you would like to stop having a bad time getting high, try to actually measure and control the dose to a lower amount than what triggers the anxiety, and try to get a stain that has CBD alongside the THC (or just a high CBD strain to mix in).
A 2:1 THC:CBD ratio is a really good one personally. (This was the ratio of the 8th century BCE temple cannabis and turned out to be a great ratio when I replicated.)
There is work from the same group of researchers showing that CBD + THC actually exacerbates the effects of THC on psychosis symptoms in people with schizophrenia: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40702165/
Plus I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the beneficial effects of a gram of CBD on psychosis symptoms has to do with pharmacokinetic effects (CBD inhibits enzymes that metabolize a lot of drugs, meaning a gram of CBD in someone with Schizophrenia that is taking other medicines would increase their blood levels of the other medicines).
Not to say playing around with some CBD is a bad idea if it works for you, but the actual hard evidence on CBD acting as a counter weight to THC’s effects is pretty scant.
in people with schizophrenia
If OP has schizophrenia, my advice would adjust. But there’s many studies (not just one, which one should always be suspect of until more/meta) about the blunting effects of CBD on THC’s more negative effects on the general population going all the way back to 1982.
Here’s a meta-analysis from 2019.
And this is a study that looked at fMRI differences when CBD was or wasn’t present.
So the ‘scant’ evidence is the opposite finding you are citing (which probably has more to do with the nuances of schizophrenia making it an outlier), not the claim CBD tempers the psychosis of THC in a normative population which is about as well studied as a thing can be when one component is a scheduled substance.
I brought up schizophrenia as your initial cited study mentioned the antipsychotic effect of CBD in people with schizophrenia, where you claimed that CBD is an antipsychotic.
The meta-analysis you’ve cited says that CBD does not consistently moderate the effects of THC across all outcomes and finished with a pretty lukewarm conclusion, that “CBD may interact with some acute effects of THC”.
Here’s another meta-analysis that also finds no consistent evidence that CBD improves the acute symptoms of THC: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpsy/article/PIIS2215-0366(20)30074-2/fulltext
My point being - the cannabis research field is not in a place to make any kind of concrete claims about CBD reducing the effects of THC. If it were, you’d see strong conclusions coming from meta-analyses, and cannabis companies wouldn’t stop citing the research when promoting their balanced CBD-THC strains.
I don’t think it’s healthy to give people the advice that there is concrete evidence that CBD will make THC more enjoyable for them. There is no magic bullet that will make THC enjoyable for some people - although again, more power to you if it works for you.
shit makes me anxious. maybe because i have adhd and am the only one in my house who is able to do “adult” things since my wife drinks and smokes and is always checked out and it’s therefore never “my” turn. so instead i go to bed early, in my own bedroom, and play everquest.

ha. no. but i’ll be ok. 🫂
“Breaker breaker, come in earth. This is rocket ship 27. Aliens fucked over the carbonater in engine #4. I’m gonna try to refuckulate it and land on Juniper. Hopefully they got some space weed. Over."
I’ve been through enjoying it, to getting nervous over nothing and back to enjoying it again. This is over years and not just one day to the next.
Body chemistry changes, medications, who you’re around, your mood can all play a part. Another person mentioned that sometimes it’s harvested too soon. You’ll get THC but if the terpenes haven’t fully developed you’ll have a different experience. This is why I dislike distillate (pure THC) and stick with good flower even when making edibles.
You mentioned being in a state where it’s not legal. That’ll make things difficult to find quality grown cannabis. Not impossible but compare to some places that have legal drive thru pickup it’s a pain.
If you try again use less than you’d think you should. Better it be low dose than uncomfortable.
Oh, you’ve misread it. It’s not illegal where I live. I could light one up right now next to a copper and it’d be fine.
I think my body chemistry just changed over the years. Close to the big 40 these days.

I’m borrowing that meme, no money making scheme, just for me. I feel seen by the meme.
Sorry, I did misread the post. You said you’re not in an illegal area but I read that as you are.
You’re doing the best thing by listening to your body. I’m in a similar age range and understand. I had an experience where it suddenly wasn’t enjoyable and I stopped for a few years. If that ever happens again I’d likely be all done.
Hahahaaha… Hahaha…ha ha hahhhhh, sigh I wish it were easier to drop the thing I’ve done every day for 18 years, because it certainly makes my anxiety worse sometimes.
Julian, make him do it riiiigght
Ah yea, we got a report of some losers getting high and drunk in the street, playing space
Yeah, us. Fucking stoned right now. Got a problem with that?
Did we just become best friends!?
Right on bud! Let’s hit the store for chips, pop and a bar.
Grab us a couple pepperoni cocks!

Damn, it must have been tough exploring the galaxy for weed without any replicators or money
From my observations, if someone is already feeling on edge, weed does not help. And in most places, just living means you’re on edge right now.
The problem is we’ve bred the shit out of weed to be high THC. It throws the whole balance off. 2:1 CBD to THC is where it’s at for me.
Sorry Jim

Opposite for me. Weed made me feel paranoid when it was illegal, or when my parents would shame me for smoking. Now there are no social consequences to smoking, so I have nothing to feel paranoid about.
What are you paranoid about? Blackhawk helicopters?
Well, the store only had “Open up, it’s the Cops” and “I’ve Fallen and I Can’t Get Up”. I have shit to do so I got the first one, now the fuckin cops are here, I’m pretty sure.

Which book is this from?
The one with Slartibartfast- he said as if it should be obvious.
Life, the Universe and Everything iirc
Thank you! People have been telling me to give these books a go, for a very, very long time now… This single scan intrigues me, the writing style seems to be up my alley.
Highly recommend. There’s a 6th Hitchhiker’s book written by Eoin Colfer (And Another Thing) with the permission of Douglas Adams’ family. It’s alright and completes the series.
My favourite book, though, is Last Chance To See. He travels the world and writes about animals on the brink of extinction. After I read it, I hated mankind in general even more. Didn’t know it’d be possible…
The Dirk Gently books and Starship Titanic are good fun as well.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy. Part 2, if I remember correctly (The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe).
I can highly recommend all the books written by Douglas Adams.
Edit: I stand corrected. Part 3.
In what manner are you consuming it?\
If it’s flower being used, I’d recommend trying to check the trichomes to see if you’re getting early chops. Most flower on the black market is chopped before the trichs are able to go all milky, which can cause things like anxiety to spike.
It’s not illegal where I live, you can get good quality weed from reputable sources, but it just messes with me. Weed was fine with me up until my early 20s, but then it changed somehow. I’d only smoke the occasional joint every two months or so.

EDIT: I may have misinterpreted that comment. Leaving that meme anyway.
I do think my body just noped out of weed for some reason. 🤷♀️
Your body and brain chemistry undergoes various changes over time, it could just be that it’s no longer compatible with you. This has happened with a few buddies of mine, they’re just no longer into it as it now either makes them go to sleep, or gives them anxiety symptoms.
Many people still think cannabis is THE thing for everyone, but at the end of the day it’s still a drug which can affect each of us differently. If you’ve already tried different strains and genetic lineages, and still have the same result, it may be something to consider.
Yes, I gave up trying a long time ago. It’s just not compatible with me anymore. Bummer, though.
Your describing THC overdose btw. Weed has become stronger and if you were happy with 12% but now all you can find is 20-30%. You only need to smoke 1/2 or 1/3 as much. Source medical patient and THC dependant.
Or to put this in other terms, if you used to drink nothing but light beer and then switch to ipas you will find that you get drunk way too easy and it’s not as enjoyable.
Not necessarily. I’m same as OP, happened also in my 20s (a long damn time ago).
I broke my collar bone a couple of years ago, and when I ran out of pain meds, I would smoke a bit of hash. As in one max two hits on a hash spliff.
The hash helped with the pain for sure, but every single minute I had to do full on mindfulness. Walking to the store about to freak out then reminded my brain “hey that’s ok but we are walking now; go back to paying attention to you feet and arms.”
I’ve tried smoking recreationally throughout the years. In the past 25 years I’ve had a good experience exactly once, and Io am convinced it was because the circumstances were literally perfect for me, mentally and physically.
So yeah even with tiny doses of different strains, it just turned on my and stayed turned. And it sucks, yes.
Hash is considered a weed concentrate, but weed isn’t for everyone.
