This is the announcement of the Threadiverse Vibrancy Challenge!
The Challenge - From September 1 to 30, 2026, complete each one of the categories below with a unique post or comment:
- (Freebie) Make a shitpost.
- Make a post about something other than technology or politics or a shitpost.
- Make a post showcasing a thing or topic you find interesting.
- Make a post to a community with fewer than 100 subscribers.
- Make a post to a community in a small instance.
- Make a post featuring a human-made piece of art.
- Make an on-topic comment to a post in a small community.
- Make a comment or post sharing news about a location relevant to you.
- Make a high-quality long form text post or comment.
- Post or comment a link from another part of the Fediverse.
I came up with this to encourage a greater variety of posts and comments to niche communities, with the support from people who usually just comment occasionally and lurk.
Participants will evaluate their own progress. If you get a score of 10/10, you will win a virtual Lemmy Gold Star, and hopefully everybody will win a noticeably more active Threadiverse in the smaller communities!
Remember to be respectful and follow rules of the instances and communities you post to.
Feel free to share this with your own instance. I will try to post a mid-challenge follow-up in 3 weeks and a concluding ceremony in October in !fediverse@lemmy.world. Good luck!
the vocal synth/vocaloid community needs more love!
art, shitposting, music
https://lemmy.world/c/hatsunemiku
https://ani.social/c/kasaneteto
i would love to see more people sharing music they like, or better yet, that they made.
(my own community) news & discussion, technical
https://piefed.social/c/vocal_synths
i think i’m going to start sharing vocadb weekly winners to keep the community alive. i’ve also, admittedly, slacked on posting, and mostly just reposted from vocaverse.network. i made this community for people who use the software to share news, personal projects, or ask for technical help. y’kno, a little more involved than just sharing stuff other people do.
Can someone recommend some small instances to post in?
Many people had good suggestions
Small instances, not small communities (although I guess sopuli.xyz is small enough?)
Sorry I misread. I wonder is poptalk scrubbles is still active? Whatever you consider small I’m not really setting a strict standard
It’s okay. Also, never heard of that one
My checklist, please ignore:

For sure. There’s no specific way you have to track your progress for it to count.
Thank you!

I got a whistling comm, you don’t have to be any good to post, just have fun.Count me in!
What are your favorite small communities?
Smallish and only occasionally active:
Very Small (~100 subscribers): !trainscanada@lemmy.ca !chatter@lemmy.ca - one of the comms basically only I’ve posted to in the last 3 years
virtual Lemmy Gold Star
Wait, a REAL virtual Lemmy Gold Star? Holy shit
Damn man, didn’t know I could get a whole virtual star. Do I get to pick the galaxy it’s in or is it assigned at random?
I’m not entirely certain. What I have tried is ordering custom massive hot balls of plasma in space for everyone, but I’ve learned the waitlist is a few billion years long.
Does Lemmy have a remindme bot like Reddit? I’ll set a reminder for the grand kids to pick it up for me
You can ask the account @remindme@mstdn.social. not sure if it can handle a Linux epoch time that far out in the future.
Cool idea!
!fedigrow@lemmy.zip for people looking for small communities
Make a post to a community with fewer than 100 subscribers.
Make a post featuring a human-made piece of art.
Might I suggest you post in my communities?
Please and thank you.
Great idea, @rentlar@lemmy.ca !
FYI, there is also !artporn@sfw.community. It would be amazing if we could separate potentially popular communities from the instances running them. I could make you a moderator there and join forces in promoting it.
I like the idea and I’m generally happy to help but it doesn’t look like anyone has posted in there in quite some time. There are a number of other art communities around Lemmy and Piefed now too so I think it will be good if we can just keep all those going like they are.
