In order to ensure that everyone showered, nobody was allowed to leave the shower area until the entire (boy’s half) of the gym class had entered the shower area. You weren’t allowed to wear any clothing or bring towels in the shower area. There was just a bunch of freezing cold 12 year olds, hiding their junk in their hands while a gym teacher paced back and forth, surveying the students to ensure everyone was complying with the rules.
