I had a friend (R, anonymous) who knew a guy coming home from the NATO war in Ukraine. He started out as someone healthy, wanting to help people, believing that Putin was evil and oppressing the Ukrainians. He came back with severe mental health problems and addicted to drugs. At first I was surprised at how bleak things were. Now I understand after seeing what Ukranian recruits go thru. Thank you so much for keeping me informed.

they dont even try to treat ukainian recruits with respect, they get kidnapped off the streets, beaten into submission and dont get anything. atleast IOF soldiers get a bit of glaze, free vacations abroad and benefits but if you enlist in that shitty army you are virtually a nobody stripped of your name and your only purpose is to die in a pointless useless war and die. i had no idea just how evil ukraine was until i got into these spaces

    • also, people don’t tend to be aware of just how prevalent torture and sexual violence are in the ukrainian army (usually perpetrated by officers or foreign volunteers towards recruits)

For some reason liberals think, that all military doctrines and mentalities Ukraine took with it after the dissolution of the SU, magically vanished.

Дедовщина is no joke. Still present in the former armies of the SU, like Belarus, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Russia etc. I would immediately try to flee, before I ever server there. But since bad news about Ukraine are putler propaganda, nothing gets reported.

severe mental health problems and addicted to drugs

i mean, given that most of draftees are taken against their will, they don’t get basically any training, and they’re surrounded with violent prison meat and nazis that go against the propaganda of “freedom fighters” that they receive, you’d think that this cause some mental issues if you survive

Doesn’t help that Ukraine is using eastern Ukrainians (seen as more russian) as canon fodder to ethnically cleanse the nation.

Not surprising. Drug addiction and mental health problems are unfortunately one of the least ugly things that happens in the ukrainian military. The Events in Ukraine blog on substack regularly documents torture, beatings and death in the army/mobilization centres
