It’s not as intuitive as Swype or Gboard and training anything new is always fun! But I’m learning and adding new words to the dictionary.
The evil genocide company has taken to offering me their password wallet, since I disabled their keyboard.
Highly recommend the FUTO board.
Thanks, I wasn’t aware that’s who created Grayjay. Can you recommend a decent FOSS kb? I’m exploring FOSS, hoping they aren’t swallowed by Behemoth. ;p
I was actually recommending their keyboard 😅
Its OSS, not FOSS, but theres no negatives in app usage if you don’t buy it.
Other than that I haven’t really shopped around per say because I like it so much. I actually ended up buying it 😅
So far, I do prefer FUTO of any others I’ve given a serious trial. There are more to go, but honestly, this one just feels more intuitive, probably because I was first used tu Swype, then gboard.
Thanks again for the rec.
Yes, I’m not im ruling out the suggestion, I’m just working within my immediate circumstances, while anticipating and strategizing my return to work and other life goals (meaning if it’s more intuitive / responsive when rejoin civilization.
I just uninstalled that one. Too bad because I want an open source keyboard that isn’t shuffling data off the device, but it just sucks too much. The swipe typing is just awful. Can’t type ‘so’ or ‘mom’ or half the things i regularly type without it completely fucking it up or just randomly capitalizing shit for no reason. I’m a bad enough typist on the phone I don’t need the keyboard making it even worse.
Have you tried the KASROZ layout? It breaks my brain to use it, but I never make typos from swiping.
i just saw that but no… i can’t find the keys i need once i start so there’s no point
It’s got a learning curve for sure, but when it’s good it’s good. Makes me feel like those Chinese people that can type a mile a minute with a numpad.
I had that problem with several. Turns out I was sloppily swiping, but the better ones do learn, without storing your profile elsewhere, supposedly.
i haven’t used cleverkeys in quite a while so i just reinstalled that
It got on my nerves so much! I still have it but it’s just not my skillset. But I will mess with it again eventually.
I’ve been using Heliboard for a while and have found it pretty good too, plenty of options to choose from it seems!
I’m currently testing it!
Used to use Heliboard, it was the best. Just stopped working for me one day and I had to switch. It took me until a month ago to find a keyboard with support for my native language layout.
Simple, highly recommend.
OK I’ll look at it later, thank you! I did end up doing FUTO Board and a couple of others.
And now for something completely different… Thumb-Key, by our comrade Dessalines.
I installed it but I’m so used to swiping, so we
winwill see!I haven’t used it enough to be quick with it, but I think the idea is pretty neat
Yep.
Interestingly, I switched back to FUTO after testing a different KB and see more typos. I thought it learned my bad habits by now…
I used Openboard for years, but recently switched to Heliboard. It’s pretty good.
Legacy Android is about to shut it down, and I didn’t even get to test it.
