If you want to rewrite your comments you should do it while you still have the chance with something like power delete suite, since it relies on old.reddit.
Best method in the past was getting GDPR files and doing it with shreddit, but getting api keys is hard now.
It worked for me. Comments never came back even years later and checking old comment links with gdpr files.
I think reddit has a limit on the amount of comments that can be viewed through your profile. So you won’t be able to delete everything in one go if you have thousands of comments.
You’ll have to do one run rewriting and then after deleting the comments it can. Then wait and do it a few days or a week later when the profiles repopulates it with the older batch of comments that weren’t available before.
Worked for me too. I remember lots of complaints about those tools not working during the api drama, some including clashes with devs of a couple similar tools/extensions having to defend their tool.
Was curious enough that I followed up on a bunch of my own comments and spot checked a bunch of random ones from those threads months later. Didn’t find any that were deleted then restored. Literally not one.
Still run into gibberish comments on search results today, so clearly those were never restored.
It really seems more likely that the “reddit restores comments” push was either the comments never got deleted (user error, tool being overwhelmed, etc.) or bad faith actors trying to keep people from nuking their shit.

Those tools don’t work. Reddit just restores the comments. Happened to me a dozen times.

Shit. Good point.
