I notice adults who hate being an adult were often raised as totally spoiled children, like they never had chores, didn’t have jobs, did the minimum at school, parents made all their choices for them, etc. coddled, more or less. And they are miserable adults because they think autonomy is a curse.

those of us who worked out asses off as kids basically think adulthood is easy time/party time. i can’t imagine thinking basic chores are difficult or awful… and yet so many of my adult peers can’t even do them. Blows my mind how many grown women I have dated who throw a tantrum at having to pay a bill, and seem to think all their money should be for fun things. But then again, their dads paid their bills almost all of their life, so they think it’s ‘unfair’ to have to pay their own way in life.

Also for me, becoming an adult was a process in learning a lot about how limited my childhood was and how stupid my parents were as people. I played video games 30 hours a week and ate shitty food because that was… all that was available to me. I wish I could have introduced kid me to all the awesome things adult me gets to do on a daily basis.
