Sounds like a new Mythbusters challenge, could a Sopwith survive a catapult launch? Would the parts of the plane fly off the deck, or would it just rip off whatever attachment point was made? Not that it would need a catapult to take off, but it would be interesting to see.
Aircraft carriers shouldn’t be redesigned to use another aircraft. Yes, modern carriers can use even Sopwith.
