Meta told a court that California, Colorado, Kentucky, and New Jersey seek $1.4 trillion in penalties before an August youth-safety trial.

The sum, roughly Meta’s entire market value, surfaces in a filing over how damages should be tallied if the states win.

    Maybe I am weird but this seems… Like the dumbest way to penalize them.

    We use arbitrary fixed values to fine them out of business by using economy of scale to devastate the business.

    It would make more sense to fine them based on the percentage of revenue generated by exploiting and harming children, which is still 100% of their business but at least it makes it clear what the court is finding for.
