Nah, scrapers, especially the AI kind, can be a heavy burden on your network. That is a valid concern and reddit is not the only victim. Even amateur sites are complaining about ai scrapers draining their bandwidth. Parties like cloudflare also acknowledge the growing problem.
Implement proof-of-work.
Cloudflare’s claims are always suspect because they’re selling an alleged solution.

Yes that is something to consider, but I trust cloudflare more (only a bit more) than the likes of other big american tech companies.
All the more reason to not involve any of those companies, and simply make anonymous visitors do a little busywork.
Maybe if they hadn’t stripped out the infrastructure for efficient bulk dataset downloads they don’t even have to host then it wouldn’t be so much of a problem
People wouldn’t be so ride or die for old.reddit.com if the regular interface wasn’t so bad. I don’t know why the current heads of Reddit corporate have never looked at a functional website. The fact that I don’t mind Piefed or Lemmy’s interface means it’s not newness that I’m opposed to. It’s polished turds.
