    Yeah, no, this is at best, a misrepresentation of both, the anarchists’ beliefs, and the police’s function.

    The idea of anarchy is that NO authority should exist. No legitimacy can ever justify power over your fellow humans’ lives, nothing can EVER legitimize a politician’s power to harm. And politicians, among other things, have undeniable power to harm.

    The function of police, in all real measurements, is to protect ownership. That’s all they do.

    You said that there are many policemen who are in the force, in order to protect their communities. By all scientific measures, policing fails miserably in every single metric on that. They don’t reduce or prevent crime at all. Their only function when not corrupt, is to move in after, and remove the freedom, and later ownership (capital) of the offending party. A process, proven to not reduce crime or protect people, and occasionally shown to aggravate it.

    I understand your “Both Sides” argument sounds appealing, and, on some level, in my soul, I deeply wish it was true. Many leftists do.

    But unfortunately, I think you don’t really understand what either side is really standing for, yet.

    but also a large amount of “Thank God it’s not us living there!” in the responses, that I did not like, I’d like to pull a bit of that conversation out, back here, for the same reason Ada commented:

    Seeing these news alone (especially if you read only the title), while very very important information, leaves behind a powerlessness that is literally part of the fascist propaganda’s purpose.

    I should note for whoever doesn’t want to spend the excruciating read’s 5 minutes of sadism, that despite unfounded police and legal threats, the women stated they will go through with the legal fight.

    While the post is old (2 days lol), for whoever further reads it, I would like it if people here with experience on these matters, shared what they know about what actions can be taken in these situations, in theory or practice. This is, I believe, an important part of the narrative.

    My experience on the matter:

    Being able to speak for Greece, there is a de facto informal mutual aid network of most queer and or anarchic collectives, which are as I’ve come to see, well connected (though of course not tight knit, different political struggles and all)

    There have been cases in the last few months, of people needing money for legal battles (small time legal bullying, related to legal names being changed and such, or bigger time legal bullying of being outed on national television by conversion-therapy “Christian Orthodox priests”), as well as just the housing and/or transitions of people with bad living conditions).

    They have been shared, by word of mouth, between these organizations, and promoted, and as a result often gotten funded rapidly, with excess being offered.

    Nameless people you don’t know out there, care, and have the will to help, especially when there is a path for them to do so.
