  • I tend to take a credo quia absurdum approach to a lot of these arguments. If there are omniscient/omnipotent beings they would have to be, by definition, beyond our ability to understand. So it’s ridiculous to think that despite that some group of people would figure out exactly the right rules by which these things would want us to behave.

Be a good person. Help others. Pay it forward. And regardless of whether there are gods or not, you will have done your small part to make the world a bit better.

  • Why did we ever forsake such amazing tech?

    • difficult to seek and skip (basically you have to guess)
    • no notion of individual tracks
    • media wear means you degrade its quality a bit with each play
    • audio quality was kinda crap to begin with (there were so many anti-hiss technologies that didn’t really work well)
    • fairly low fidelity unless using the best quality tape (and even then)
    • the tape itself is finicky and easy to damage
    • each cassette was fairly expensive to manufacture (esp relative to stamping CDs)

There’s a reason CDs so thoroughly took over once the price of the players came down
