No. This is not a Disco Elysium dev, and especially not a writer. Everyone who worked on Disco Elysium has left the studio by now as far as I know and ZA/UM is nothing but an empty husk trying to exploit the reputation and name of the genius of others.
That C4 trailer was completely shameless. “We brought you Disco Elysium”… No you fucking didn’t. Now give the IP back to its creators you evil, soulless capitalistic pieces of trash. Fuck all the way off.
This is just like that kickstarter from one of the other teams from that fallout that was posted here not too long ago.
Wake me up when the actual original writers have something to show. Anything else leveraging the DE name is a scam.
Kurvitz, Rostov and Hindpere are working together for a company called Red Info, but there has been no further info at this time. I think rumours are they might be ready to announce something this year.
Argo Tuulik is heading up Summer Eternal, so that is another one to keep an eye on. Sadly his work got halted by a legal injunction made by the people at Longdue.
Longdue themselves though have managed to recruit Martin Luiga. Whether he will actually contribute much or is there to lend credence to the project by virtue of his name remains unclear.
Sorry of all the disco offsprings ZA/UM is definitly the villain and not to be supported in any way.
What was the issues? I vaguely remember there being drama/issues but didn’t pay attention at the time?
Some kind of corpo takeover where every creative and writer who actually created Disco Elysium were forced out, including the lead who came up with the entire universe. It’s not like they can just produce equally good work separately, either; apparently Kurvitz (the writer) needs the right team to focus his creative output.
Here’s a 2.5h investigative report of the breakup of ZA/UM. It’s worthwhile if you’ve got the time and inclination.
That is a long time indeed lol.
Shamelessly reposting this comment I saw on the trailer on YouTube.
Does anyone have a ZA/UM abridged (referenced) story including the less savory parts so one can make up its own mind rather than defaulting to the typical kneejerk reaction and joining the online circlejerk.
The only stories I’ve seen make it seem like there was a corporate rug pull but it was a while ago and I’d rather be more informed before writing them off entirely.
Opposite of abridged but I found this to be the best take on all the drama. It kind of goes both ways, exploring both the company’s and the creator’s flaws.
Even less abridged, but the 41st Precinct channel has a 16 hour ZA/UM - The Inside Story interview with Argo and Dora.
His interview with Martin Luiga is also great.
Ty both.
