First it was the digg effect then the reddit hug of death and now it’s the lemmy lick!
Someone is too young to remember Slashdot I see …
What did they call it there
“The Slashdot Effect” and “slashdotting/slashdotted”.
https://thehistoryoftheweb.com/postscript/the-most-ill-timed-website-in-history/
I thought it was just “Slashdotted.”
Things used to get Farked back in the day too.
“Your site just got lemmywinked out of existence!”
urgh really, why is it a lick
Because it’s something a lemming would do.
It looks more like a biter to me 🤔
Nibbled to shreds
the bite of '25
Has this happened yet?
I like to think it did when the Framework website went down after the new hardware announcements.
Sure, but they were also live streaming their announcements on YouTube so my money’s on that.
Damn is that actually what lemming teeth look like?
Mouth closed: cutest little critter
Opens mouth: 😳 wtf
Tbf this condition is shared by many humans as well, so we can add this to the list of excellent lemming metaphors
Basically any rodent(to my knowledge).
Literally every rodent. Having teeth like that is the defining feature that distinguishes them from other similar types of mammals, such as lagomorphs (rabbits etc.), which have four top teeth.
From Wikipedia:
Rodents (from Latin rodere, ‘to gnaw’) are mammals of the order Rodentia (/roʊˈdɛnʃə/ roh-DEN-shə), which are characterized by a single pair of continuously growing incisors in each of the upper and lower jaws.
(I learned this the other day when my wife thought rabbits were rodents and we ended up looking it up.)
Maybe this is just a bad angle. Doesn’t look so bad in some other pics.
Lemmy Cliff would be better.
Nah, ever since I learned the true history behind that, I try to bury it so it can’t perpetuate.
