Valerio Isca (shown left), born on this day in 1900, was an anarchist who co-founded the Libertarian Book Club in 1945, in New York City. Born in Italy, Isca immigrated to the United States after fighting in World War I. In New York City, Isca helped spread anarchist ideas, a champion of the libertarian socialism advocated by Peter Kropotkin.

Speaking to anarchist historian Paul Avrich, he stated “Anarchism at bottom is an ethical philosophy. When a man realizes that it is immoral to exploit another man and immoral to oppress another man, and when he refuses to do so, that man has become an anarchist, as far as I am concerned.”
