As always the question who gets to determine what is true and false, especially if it is about reports about alleged corruption by high ranking politicians?
In some countries like Germany the prosecutors are not independent, but the ministers can tell them to halt an investigation. So if the medias ability to report on founded allegations is limited, it becomes all to easy to prevent the prosecutors from investigating government officials, as no public pressure can be build.
If it is about topics like obvious lies and defamations, that can often be addressed with laws against defamations. But in cases like the wife of Sanchez that seems to be less obvious.
If only they made a bill to combat politicians lying
